TOWNSHIP OF PLAINFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) – A new kind of health care center is growing in western Michigan.

HealthBar is a drive-thru that provides medical care to patients who don’t have to get out of their car. It works much like emergency care, offering care for things like minor injuries and illnesses, as well as COVID-19, flu and strep tests, and concussion assessments.

The significant differences are wait times: the average wait at the drive-thru medical center is 10 minutes. There are no appointments and HealthBar operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Yelm community came out in force to support Jeren Pollock, 21, in a 139-car parade that took place on Saturday January 8 outside his Yelm home where Pollock has been confined for two years in palliative care at home. .

Pollock has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which causes muscle degeneration by modifying certain proteins, which help maintain muscle growth, said Tad DesVoignes, who learned of the disease while he was a bus driver. Pollock School.

“He was better at backing up without being able to turn his head than most people I know, including me,” DesVoignes said.

DesVoignes said Pollock is kind and compassionate, although he didn’t hesitate to point out DesVoignes’ “horrible driving” by joking when he was on the bus.

Pollock is said to enjoy school, although DesVoignes suspects his dedication to the institution was more social than academic.

“He was always disappointed when he couldn’t make it to school,” DesVoignes said. “When the pandemic hit, he was at home for the time he had at school, cut off from these friendships.”

When the community came together to give Pollock a taste of the social atmosphere it lacked, it was “a little way to get some of that social friendship back,” DesVoignes said.

Importantly, DesVoignes said the outpouring of love from the community was huge for Pollock.

“He also got to see some close friends from the school who were able to attend,” he said. “So many friends, family and community members who (know him) (were) present. It meant a lot to him.

Ultimately, the parade was not only a heartwarming vehicle for Pollock’s support, but something that helped the community as well.

“It was so nice to have something like this parade for the community,” said DesVoignes. “It seemed to have brought people together for a positive result, rather than focusing on the things that separate us from our neighbors. We were finally all united for a good cause.

The unofficial tally of parade participants reached 139 cars, although the actual number may be a bit higher given the routes some vehicles take, DesVoignes said.

“Jeren and his whole family were very grateful and appreciated everyone’s participation and enthusiasm,” he said. “The outpouring of love went both ways. It was lovely to watch. I heard from (her mother) Sheila (Russell) that Jeren not only couldn’t help but smile all the time, but that he also said hello to each of the passing cars.

NEW YORK – (AP) – Hallways filled with rancid black smoke, rising from floor to floor. People would stumble and fall as they rushed down the dark stairs, unable to see. Panic turned to sadness, as residents who escaped a fire at a high-rise apartment building in the Bronx learned that neighbors did not survive.

“We all went out. My friend, her husband did not make it. So I just thank God that my family was successful, ”said resident Winter Thomas, who escaped from the ninth floor with her mother, stepfather and siblings.

In total, Sunday’s fire killed 19 people, including nine children aged 16 and under, firefighters said.

” It does not mean anything. These are kids I grew up with, kids we went to school with, ”said Thomas.

On the way down, they dodged unconscious bodies lying on the ground.

Sandra Clayton, 61, heard neighbors shouting in the hallway, “Get out! To go out!”

She rushed for the stairs, picking up her dog named Mocha, a 2 year old Maltese Shih Tzu.

The smoke smelled of putrid chemicals, she said. It was already thick and black when she found the stairwell.

She fumbled with the flashlight on her cell phone, but was too shocked. Unable to see, she groped down the stairs, soon crowded with other tenants. She described howls of panic and tears echoed on the stairs.

“I just walked down the steps as much as I could, but people were falling on me screaming,” she said from St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was treated for smoke inhalation.

She fell three times, sometimes trampled by others trying to escape into the dark.

At one point, she let go of her dog as she prepared for a fall.

“I tried to feel for her, but there was so much smoke,” she said, her voice turning emotional. “I had to save my own life.

After minutes that seemed to last forever, she found a way out of the building. She was gasping for breath, tearfully wondering what had happened to Mocha on the stairs.

“It was so horrible,” she said of the ordeal. “I was so scared.”

Moka did not succeed. The dog was later found choking on smoke, she said.

As evening fell on the stage, Nicole Anderson counted her blessings. She suspects the fire was already burning when she and her family took the elevator to their car.

After driving for just a few minutes, the family saw fire trucks hurtling down the street, sirens and blaring lights.

“I didn’t think much about it,” said Anderson, 43, who grew up in the building industry. Soon a neighbor called to say their building was on fire. She turned around but was only able to approach a few blocks from her home. She did the rest of the way.

“It was black and black smoke,” she said, coming from a lower story.

Jose Henriquez, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, cared for two young grandchildren and a niece with his wife. At first he thought the fire alarm was just an irritating interruption to their morning as he said false alarms in the building were common.

Henriquez said those previous false alarms could have prevented residents from taking action as soon as the fire broke out.

As black smoke filled the hallway outside, Henriquez closed the door tightly and wedged a damp towel in the space below.

He opened a window, letting in the winter air. In the video he shot, children can be heard alarming at the smoke, looking out the 10th floor window as fire trucks rushed to the scene.

Eventually, the family sneaked past the ascending firefighters, using moistened COVID-19 masks to protect themselves from the lingering smoke, being careful not to slip in the puddles.

On the way down, they passed a dog lying dead on the sooty staircase.

Luis Rosa, also on the 13th floor, had woken up to the fire alarm, also annoyed that it was probably another false alarm.

But when a notification appeared on his phone, he and his mother started to worry.

At that point, smoke began to seep into her 13th-floor apartment. The sirens began to howl in the distance.

He opened the front door, but the smoke had grown too thick to escape, he said.

“Okay, we can’t run down the stairs because if we go down the stairs, we will end up suffocating,” he recalls.

He looked out the window, trying to figure out his options.

“All we could do was wait,” he said.

About 45 minutes later – maybe longer, he said – he heard knocking on the door. It was a firefighter giving the green light.

IRVINE, Calif., January 4, 2022 / PRNewswire / – Mazda Operations in North America (MNAO) today announced December total sales of 19,422 vehicles, a decrease of 38 percent from december 2021. Full-year sales totaled 332,756 vehicles; an increase of 19.2% compared to 2020. With 27 days of sales in December, compared to 28 the previous year, the company recorded a decrease of 35.7% on the basis of the daily selling rate (DSR) . With 306 days of sales in 2021, up from 309 in 2020, the company recorded a 20.3% increase on a DSR basis for the year.

Mazda Announces December and Full Year 2021 Sales Results

Despite its challenges, 2021 has been a year to remember for Mazda, as the brand has focused on community appreciation and achieved many milestones in the United States, including:

  • The launch of the MX-30, Mazda’s first battery-electric vehicle.

  • The launch of the Essential Car Care program for teachers, which has helped provide free oil changes and improved cleaning to thousands of hero educators.

On Jan. 7, 2016, Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith sustained a serious knee injury – a torn ACL and a torn LCL – against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Smith was rightly considered one of the top five prospects in the upcoming draft (I had ranked him as the best draft-eligible player, regardless of position), but the injury scuttled Smith’s draft supply. and he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 34th overall pick in the 2017 Draft. There is no doubt that had he remained healthy, Smith would have been a much higher pick and won a lot more. money, and his decision to play with his teammates and for his coaches – the “right way,” as paid pundits continue to tell us – cost him millions of dollars.

On January 1, 2022, Ole quarterback Miss Matt Corral suffered a leg injury when he was sacked against Baylor in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Corral, a consensus prospect in the first round of the 2022 draft, was unable to put any weight on his right foot after the injury, and he had to be taken off the pitch.

Corral had entered the game with the best of intentions, and he didn’t care if his draft stock could be affected.

Unfortunately, the best intentions don’t always produce the best results. We don’t know at this point what Corral’s long-term health will be. We don’t know what his medical tests will show the screening combine in early March. And we don’t know what that will do for his draft stock, his earning potential, and his ability to thrive in an NFL environment.

What we do know is that we had the standard car wash that we usually get when these things happen, courtesy of ESPN’s Joe Tessitore, who called the game.

“I know there have been a lot of people complaining about college football this year,” Tessitore said. “The transfer portal, the NILs and the changing landscape, and are these playoff games really meaningful outside of the playoffs. Matt Corral is all you need to know. He does it the right way, he cares about it the right way.

So… those “student-athletes” who decide to retire from their last college games after years of giving their all to protect their future against an NCAA organization that will get nothing for them if they damage that future for the NCAA’s own profitability are not do it the right way? They not take care the right way?

Oh good? And what about the performative outrage over the rights of these players? Tessitore did not call this game for free. May be he also doesn’t care in the right way.

Now, could Corral have suffered that injury so easily in Game 3 of the season? When should players step aside to protect their future? Legitimate questions that could have been explored with more nuance if we hadn’t had the NCAA party line all day.

Of course, that hubbub started on New Years morning, when fellow ESPN commentators Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard had all their feelings about the player withdrawal.

Of course, new USC head coach Lincoln Riley, who left the Oklahoma Sooners before their bowl game, was doing it… uh… doing it for the right reasons?

Sure.

“What’s the difference as a player and say these games don’t make sense?” ” Herbstreit said. “Des, we played ‘meaningless games’. I know you were here a lot. They have a sense of entitlement. It’s like, ‘If we don’t go to the one that matters, it just doesn’t have as much value’ – as it did for us to come.

Herbstreit tried using damage control later in the day… which didn’t really work. Because he keeps regrouping the players who do not agree with his way of seeing things in a single category.

Different things mean different things to different players. The NCAA has made billions of dollars off the backs of athletes who haven’t even had the opportunity to market their own names until very recently. The sharecropper mentality inherent in this system has been detailed time and time again.

Schools earn money hand in hand, Networks broadcasting pétanque games earn money hand in hand. It’s almost understandable, pathetically, that those who benefit most from a system in which athletes have no rights are most easily offended when these athletes finally get a taste for the table. Herbstreit, one of ESPN’s most visible and consistent experts, has a declared annual salary of $ 2 million. ESPN currently has an agreement to broadcast the college football qualifiers through 2025 which costs them about $ 5.64 billion in total.

So. maybe the party line is more about profits than the right way of doing things.

Herbstreit is a particularly interesting example in that video games have been brought up in these specific conversations as to why gamers just don’t care about the game the way it did. In 2016, Herbstreit blamed Ed O’Bannon, which won a lawsuit related to the uncompensated use of his likeness and that of other athletes, for the loss of EA Sports’ annual college football video game.

“I’ve never met a college football player who said to himself, ‘They can’t use my name and my image! I need to be paid! ‘ They are just delighted to be in the game, ”said Herbstreit. “They love to be in the game. It’s as if the greatest highlight of their lives is being in the game.

As Herbstreit had been the voice of EA’s game, we may be dealing with another conflict of interest.

“It was a great honor to be invited to switch from gambling to gambling, and I would love to do so. ” Herbstreit said a year ago. “I hope I have the opportunity when the game returns”,

It’s also fundamentally interesting that Herbstreit made it very clear that college athletes stay away from social media.

“My recommendation going forward for all coaches – and I don’t know if you could control that – is to keep players away from social media; university players ”, Herbstreit said in 2015. “Because what I find is that it’s counterproductive. And I know it’s free speech and you should bring it up someday. And I don’t know how you would control it. But I’ve never seen a team as active as Ohio State on social media and back and forth, whether it’s the fans, the media, or whatever.

“You can tell it doesn’t affect you, but ultimately it does. I would do anything in my power if I were a coach in the current climate to say, “Hey guys, camp starts on August 1 and your phones and social media they’re being put away until that we are done playing. You are not going to commit. You are not going to get involved. Because there is nothing good that comes out of it.

Is it possible that one of the reasons Herbstreit would prefer college gamers to stay away from social media is because they have one less way to defend themselves against general claims about their love of the game? Is it also possible that Herbstreit’s preference in this regard is due to the NCAA’s need to maintain its status quo?

Given the history, I would say it is quite possible on both counts.

Kirk Herbstreit is one of the advertisers of a large network. He does not inherently embody everything that is wrong with college sport. But in recent years, and especially at the start of this new year, he appears to be the cartel’s most vocal spokesperson.

And that’s still a shame in college sport.
