18-year-old arrested after crashing through Crow Tow gate, injuring passerby

Police arrested the woman who drove her car through the gate of a towing company’s parking lot and hit a bystander. Police arrested Anjilena Achwiel, 18, of Des Moines on Friday. Police located his vehicle in the 4200 block of Park Avenue and had it seized. Police said Achwiel drove to Crow Tow Towing Service, located at 826 SE 21st St., to pick up his car this week. The vehicle had been towed from an apartment complex due to a parking violation. She allegedly took her car to Crow Tow without paying the fee. Then she allegedly rammed the car through two secure fences. After hitting the second gate, she struck a passerby, identified as a 48-year-old woman. Achwiel then left the scene, according to police. The victim remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition, police said. Achwiel is charged with reckless driving, a Class D felony; first degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony; and leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury accident, a Class D felony. The accident is still under investigation.

After going through the second door, she ran into a passerby, identified as a 48-year-old woman. Achwiel then left the scene, according to police.

Achwiel is charged with reckless driving, a Class D felony; first degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony; and leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury, a Class D felony.

The accident is still under investigation.
